RBI Grade B Officers Phase II Exam Analysis 2018 September 15, 2018



RBI Grade B Officers (Phase II) Exam – 2018 was conducted on September 15th , 2018. The candidates who were shortlisted on the basis of results of Phase-I could appear in this exam. The examination was conducted in two shifts and students were required to appear for both the shifts.

Each question in Paper I and Paper III had five options. An incorrect answer will result in a penalty of ¼ of the marks allotted to the question.

The pattern of the paper was similar to 2017. The surprise element in the paper came from the questions in ESI Section which were more focused on past schemes of the Government (Schemes from the year 1999 and 2000). Very few current event related question was asked. FM was comparatively simpler and more straightforward questions with more weightage to banking related topics.

Phase II online examination consisted of three papers as under:

Paper I:

Paper I was divided into 2 sections. Look at the table below:

Section 1 includes passages that were provided to establish the context of the question, though the questions could not be directly answered from the passage. Section 2 questions were straight and quiet factual in nature.

Questions were asked on the following topics:

  • Schemes
  • IMF Report on article IV consultation
  • TRIPS
  • GDP and GNP Concepts
  • PCI Concepts
  • Fiscal Deficit
  • Types of Elasticity

Paper II:

There were only 3 questions in this paper. First question required the candidates to write an essay (40 marks, only 300 words allowed), second question was to write a précis (30 marks, 170 words) and question 3 was reading comprehension (30 marks).

Paper III:

Paper III again was divided into 2 sections. Look at the table below:

Finance Questions

The paper consisted a mix of factual and more focus on banking related questions. Questions were asked on the following topics:

  • Numerical on Financial ratio (PE),
  • FRMB Act
  • BASEL NORMS- Pillars, Tier 1 and Tier 2 Capital
  • Monetary Policy
  • IBC
  • Details on Priority sector lending targets
  • loan limits for various sectors like education loan, housing loan etc
  • Abbreviations like OCR, PPP, ERG

Management Questions

In management, the questions were based on familiar topics and this section was easy. Questions were asked on the following topics:

  • Blake and Mouton,
  • Herzberg,
  • Inventory management techniques,
  • Management control
  • Management organization
  • Leadership
